The Jim Pattison Broadcast Group is pleased to announce CHAT-TV Medicine Hat was recognized for their journalistic excellence with a Radio Television Digital News Association (RTDNA) National Award for Best Long Feature (Small/Medium Market). RTDNA Canada Awards honour the best journalists, programs, stations and newsgathering organizations in radio, television and digital.
This Feature entitled “Lost in the Mind” tackled the very difficult topic of mental health and addiction. Many, many, hours of work were put into this to tell Becks Dudley’s story while sending a message to others struggling that there is light after darkness.
Becks was 15-years-old when she ran away from home, ending what was a promising career as one of Canada’s best squash players. Her passion for the sport was lost. 16 years later, after overcoming serious addictions to alcohol and drugs, the chance to relive a childhood dream inspired her to battle back.
This special 3 part feature was written and produced by Colton Mckee and former Sports Director Mitch Bach with assistance by Lynnette Schneider.
We congratulate our dedicated news team in Medicine Hat for their hard work and dedication to this important story.
